Settore del caffè: i dati e gli aggiornamenti
Arabica coffee futures closed slightly higher on continue speculative short covering. The active contract for July delivery finished 95 points higher at 142.70 cents a pound. Activity was moderate with the volume reaching 19,932 lots.
The nearby switch narrowed 10 points to end at -2.10 cents on good trade buying. During the session prices hovered around the 142 level for the July contract as traders pondered the effect of the raise by 17 %, of the reference price in Brazil.
The government today agreed to raise to 307 reals per 60 kilo bag
The minimum reference price from 261.69 reals. Producers have asked for an increment of 30%. Which caused certain friction between the agriculture and finance ministries.
On the technical view
Open interest action evidenced the recent short covering. Since May 1, the OI has decreased 7,435 lots as prices recovered almost 8.00 cents. OI is now at a similar level as the pre-delivery May period at 159,552 lots.
In London
Robusta July futures closed only slightly lower; sliding $7 down to $2010 a ton. Prices hit the high early in the morning, reaching $2024 before falling sharply on speculative short covering.
The quick drop was the highlight of the session. With levels plummeting to $1980 from $2008, and then starting a long trek back above $2000.
Despite the sudden fall
Prices did not try lower than $2002 in the afternoon. Volume was light all around, less than 13,000 lots traded outright with fewer than a thousand calls and almost six hundred puts making it a slower day. In related news, Brazil did not amend the reference price for Robusta coffee despite adjusting the Arabica price.
